Red River, NM

Jason Carey, Scott McFarland, Tom Schueurman and I went to New Mexico and ran the Red River (actually a creek) on May 14/15, 2005. JPC borrowed Scott's Phat, and Scott de-virginized his Huck. The Red is just north of Taos and runs about 4 miles until it empties into the Rio Grande.

We got 4 creekers and play boat on top of my truck . . .

and there were 2 more playboats inside the bed. General consensus was that all the kayaks were worth more than my truck.

The put-in, at the fish hatchery. Jason getting ready.

Tom at the put-in.

This was pretty typical of the first mile, generally mild, lots of trees and brush.

Tom in eddy.

Video of Tom going through one of the tougher sections, and having a rough go of it.

Video of Scott doing the same run

Wood strainer that Jason got caught on.

Me, after the last drop here. Of course, I nailed it, but we didn't get video.

One of the great things about bringing your own camera is that you get lots of shots of other people . . .

and nobody else knows how to work the camera so we get some ??? pictures, too.

This was another bigger drop in the river, you can barely make out someone center middle coming down.

The creek emptied into the Rio Grande . . .

so Tom got time to practice his roll (movie where he doesn't roll)

Happy to be done.

Tom's 1st bad roll attempt.

Tom's 2nd bad roll attempt (head up!)
